Looking for a great drip coffee machine for your home? You reached the right place. The term “coffee maker” is searched for online over 800,000 times each month, and there are thousands of user opinions on drip coffee makers all over the web.
Buzzrake collected and analyzed these opinions, in order to determine the users’ favorite models. Each model was given a cumulative score, based on how users describe the machine’s overall value, the quality of its materials, its long-term reliability, its brewing speed, how easy it is to use, the temperature of the coffee and their overall satisfaction with the product.
The top-ranked coffee machines have much in common:
- Carafe: consumers strongly favor thermal, stainless steel carafes over glass ones. Also, the most popular carafe size is around 8-10 cups. This equals about 4-5 large mugs of coffee, which is ideal for a family or several roommates.
- Style: opinions show that best coffee makers have simple, classic designs and intuitive controls. On average, these simpler models rate much higher than fancier units, which often feature display screens and many programmable settings.
- User ratings: all the best coffee makers receive excellent scores for reliability and quality. They are all said to be very quiet as well. However, scores for attributes like appearance or ease of cleanup greatly vary.
- Brands: models by specific manufacturers consistently receive high cumulative scores. The users’ favorite brands include BUNN, Melitta and Zojirushi, all of which offer several low-cost options (under $100) for purchase online. Krups and KitchenAid receive the lowest marks by users.
Surprisingly, there is no clear correlation between a model’s price and its cumulative scores; some of the best rated models are budget-priced, while others top the charts at $250 or more. The average online price of the best rated coffee makers is approximately $150.
